Die Wasserspender –
The Water Dispensers (2)

Quellschüttung

Around the “Birkenberg” and “Heidelberg” mountains you can find three productive spring grounds. The sources of the streams “Pointmühlbach” in the north-east, of the “Kornmühlbach” in the west and of the “Hendlmühlbach” in the south are supplied by the surface water of the wooded heights. On its way down, the surface water passes the slate stratum of the “Waldsassener Schiefergebirge” and therefore goes through a highly efficient, natural filtering process. At the same time, the rock’s mineral salt and trace elements are set free and give the water its flavor and physiological effect. Besides that the slate makes the water pleasantly soft.

All spring water from the area of Bad Neualbenreuth eventually flows into the North Sea. The European main watershed is situated only a few kilometers southwards. From there, all rivers flow towards the Danube river and into the Black Sea. Starting in the Fichtel Mountains the watershed goes to Bärnau, along the border of the Czech Republic, then southwards till it reaches the region where Bavaria, the Czech Republic and Austria meet.

Here, the water from the “Kellerbach” stream is lead into the “Kornmühlbach” stream. Thus, it safeguarded the drink water supply of Wernersreuth for a long time.
