Das “Forsthaus” –
The Forester´s House (12)

Naturfreundehaus

„Let’s go to the forester´s house“, people used to say in the past – and sometimes they even do today – not for nothing! The property, built in 1860 as “Royal Bavarian Forester´s House” on the outskirts of the village of Wernersreuth, was acquired by the nature lovers’ club “Naturfreunde Waldsassen” in the 1960s and converted into a nature lovers’ club and guest house including restaurant.

Since 1970, this house has been serving as easily accessible hiking and excursion destination in addition to the cottage at the “Ringelfelsen” (Rinnlstein) rock, which had been acquired years before. Idyllically located, surrounded by nature, the house has a rustic ambience, cozy rooms and serves traditional home-style cooking.

The wayside cross, erected by a nature lover of the local group, underlines the historical development of the “Stiftland” region which is closely connected with the rise of the monastery of Waldsassen. Besides that, it is the expression of a deep-rooted popular piety. The erection at this place also shows its intensive connection to nature.
